Tree Cabling & Bracing
Not every risky tree needs to be removed. In many cases, a weak or split tree can be stabilized and preserved with properly installed cabling and bracing. Wilcox Tree Experts offers professional tree support systems to help reduce the risk of failure and extend the life of valuable trees on your property.
Our Connecticut Licensed Arborists carefully evaluate each tree to determine whether structural support is appropriate—or if removal is the safer option. We’re always honest about what will truly protect your home and landscape.
What is Tree Cabling & Bracing
Tree cabling uses high-strength steel cables or modern support systems installed high in the canopy to help:
Support weak or heavy limbs
Stabilize multiple trunks (co-dominant stems)
Reduce movement during wind and storms
Tree bracing uses threaded steel rods lower in the tree to:
Reinforce splits or cracks in the trunk or major limbs
Help hold compromised sections together
Provide additional internal strength where the tree is weakest
These systems do not make a tree “fail-proof”, but they can significantly lower the risk of breakage and give you more years with a tree you’d rather keep than remove.
When Cabling & Bracing May Help
You may be a good candidate for tree cabling and bracing if you notice:
A mature tree with two or more large trunks splitting from the same point
Visible cracks in main limbs or at the trunk union
Large limbs extending over your home, driveway, patio, or play area
Trees that have historical or sentimental value you’d like to preserve
Prior storm damage, but enough healthy wood remaining to justify saving the tree
Our arborists start with a full visual inspection from the ground and, when needed, from within the canopy. We’ll explain what we see, discuss options, and recommend cabling, bracing, pruning, or removal based on safety and long-term viability.
Our Approach
When we install cabling or bracing, we:
Evaluate the whole tree, not just the problem limb
Use professional-grade hardware and industry-approved methods
Combine cabling/bracing with pruning when needed to reduce weight and wind load
Place hardware in a way that maintains as much of the tree’s natural appearance as possible
Schedule periodic follow-up inspections so hardware and tree growth can be monitored over time
Every tree, property, and risk situation is different. We design each system specifically for your tree and your goals.
